Format

Vector based files, such as those produced by Illustrator and Freehand will produce ads that look crisper and cleaner than raster image files (Photoshop). We will accept either, but the vector based ads will look much better.

We cannot print native files from page layout programs such as Quark XPress, Adobe Pagemaker, CorelDraw, Microsoft Publisher, etc. It may be possible for you to convert layouts done in programs such as these to a usable EPS format with the correct software. If you do send EPS files created in this manner, please include all of your original files as well.

If for any reason you are unable to supply us with your ad in one of the preferred formats listed below, please contact Christopher Kmetz (chris@cobro.com) to work out an alternative. Cobro would also be glad to create your ad for you for a minimal charge.

Correct:

For vector based files we prefer:

Illustrator 8 (or lower) Native .ART
Encapsulated Postscript ** .EPS

For raster image files we prefer:

Photoshop Native .PSD Note: Any color raster file you send us should be sized correctly to output at a resolution of 300 dpi.
Lineart or Bitmap files (Black and white ONLY) should have a resolution of 1200 dpi.
TIFF (No LZW Compression) .TIF

Notes and Tips

Here are some notes and tips we have for you. These are important, please read them.

• Please be sure to include all relevant graphics and fonts when you send us your ad! If we do not receive all the original files associated with your ad, we cannot process it.

• Never use a compressed format for your ad. (JPEG, GIF, PNG, etc.) If you are saving a TIFF file, do not use LZW compression. These compressed formats cannot be processed by the imagesetter.

• If you are sending us a vector based ad (Illustrator, Freehand), convert your text to paths/outlines before saving a copy for us. In Illustrator this command is called 'Create Outlines' and is listed in the 'Type' menu. In Freehand it is under the 'Text' menu and is called 'Convert to Paths'. By doing this, you are assuring that no font substitution issues will occur.

• Color/Grayscale image files should always have a resolution of 300 dpi. Black and white line art/bitmap image files should have a resolution of 1200 dpi.

• Be sure your images are in the correct colorspace. If you are using Photoshop, this can be changed under the ‘Image’ > ‘Mode’ submenu. Use CMYK for color images, and Grayscale or Bitmap for black and white images . Do not use RGB color. This can cause serious errors at print time.

All customer supplied ads must meet these specifications. Cobro Publishing will not be held responsible for quality degradation resulting from ads not meeting these specifications.
